Weapons/Fighting Strategies
Minie BallThe Minnie ball was a new bullet developed by Claude-Etienne Minié.
This bullet solved a number of problems, but the first was improving load times. Jamming down regular musket balls with force would damage the barrel and Jam gunpowder into the rifling grooves. A bonus to the new conical shape is vastly improved range, shooting accurately up to 600 yards. |
Gatling gunThe Gatling gun was one of the first weapons to solve to problem of reloading.
Richard Jordan Gatling invented the Gatling gun which was based upon a series of barrels rotating around a central axle. only one firing hammer is used to ignite the gunpowder, and it fires every time a new barrel rotates towards the firing hammer . |
TacticsThe introduction of artillery introduced a new variable to war. cannons were made lighter so that horses could haul them to the battlefield.
Sand bags were brought to the battlefield in order to build light fortifications for soldiers to take cover in, however this was not very useful as soldiers were constantly advancing or retreating. |
